Extended care

We provide extended care services both before and after school to accommodate your work schedule. Our extended care hours are from 7:00-8:00 AM before school and from 2:30 – 5:30 PM after school. You can schedule recurring extended care or use extended care as needed. Families outside of CFCS can use this service as well.

Extended Care consists of activities geared to different ages.

  • Preschoolers eat lunch and then nap or rest followed by both indoor and outdoor activities.

  • Elementary and Middle School students have a study hall followed by activities once they complete their assigned homework.

Our teachers are available for specialized, one-on-one tutoring sessions upon request or teacher recommendation. We provide tutoring in reading, phonics, math — any subject with which the student is struggling.

One of the tools that we use for math tutoring is Math-U-See because it complements Abeka math. This is a revolutionary multi-sensory math approach designed to help students learn math using manipulatives. We have seen phenomenal results using this approach with students who have otherwise struggled with math.

English as a Second Language

Another area of special needs that we support are our non-English-speaking students. We provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to students that need it as part of their regular class day for the same reasons outlined above, namely the importance of social and academic development while also learning English.

We use an Abeka online program for ESL students so that its content ties right in with the other subjects being taught in the classroom. This program stresses an intensive phonics approach, helping foreign students in the pronunciation of words and the development of vocabulary, enabling them to read and write English fluently. Phonics is a strength of the Abeka curriculum, and it really shines in the ESL area.

Differentiated Learning

CFCS is among the best dyslexia schools in El Paso because of its integrated curriculum for students with special needs. Special needs students can receive specialized therapy and still participate in normal class activities, which is important for them both socially and academically.

Three groups of people make this integrated curriculum effective. First, we have an on-site Certified Language Therapist who specializes in helping students with reading, writing, and spelling disorders. Second, our teachers assist in the practical application of skills learned during therapy. Third, parents also assist by applying these same skills in the home and providing LOTS of encouragement! All three groups of people communicate very closely about progress, skills, and observations in order to assist each special needs student.

We have seen some amazing results using this approach for those with special needs. Our student’s high test scores include the scores of students with special needs.

Summer tutoring

During the summer, we offer summer tutoring for remedial learning or for further enrichment. We use our summer tutoring program to focus on the basics because proficiency in these areas helps all other subjects fall into place.  Some parents also use summer tutoring as an opportunity for their children to get ahead in these areas.

We tailor the tutoring  classes to meet the needs of each individual student. Also, the fequency and the times are mutually agreed upon between the teacher and the parent. Each student receives instruction in the areas he/she is struggling in based on an initial assessment, report card, and input from the parent. Teachers can emphasize one or more subject areas upon request.
